bracket-ology
honestly… i’m not much for college basketball. i get interested this week, after having spent most of the season looking the other way. when i was in highschool, though, i was all ACC basketball, all the time. i even wanted to go UNC because they had the best teams then. dante calabria!
i have only slighty more interest in the NBA, though i do really love their playoff system. how do i explain what makes the NBA playoffs so great? teams play a series. more teams than MLB. late june nights in hot, sweaty bars, cheering. but i am getting off topic.
below are my brackets for this year’s march madness. here was my criteria:
1. record (mostly looking at losses)
2. seed (mostly picking the higher seed)
3. do i like the coach (based on my own arbitrary criteria)
4. do i like the city the team is in
so, xavier men and women got some love. and st.john’s just because. and rutgers because i still think that Imus thing sucked. i like pat summitt, but i think she is a more compelling character when she is just short of the perfection she so desperately craves. so i got her close, only to be defeated by her nemesis, geno auriemma.
i’m looking forward to stanford beating uconn for the women’s title. i always root for women coaches! i’m picking kansas for the dudes. i dont know why. but i think SDState is going to come very close.
as for BYU, i agree with some writers who have pointed out that those kids are really just ambassadors for a religion. and they know exactly what theyre getting into when they sign the “honor code”. but i believe it is inconsitently enforced, and the young man, davies, is being made an example of in a very public, troubling fashion.
